DESIGN NOTES: The arms represent the armiger’s ancestry, Teixeira (maternal) and Silva (paternal), with the motto “Family, safe haven” in Latin, as we believe that the family is the best welcoming space in our lives. Maternal descent: the family, several generations ago from Armiger’s mother, originates on the Island of Madeira, an overseas territory of Portugal. Grandparents were Teixeira cousins. Madeira Island was discovered in 1419 by João Gonçalves Zarco and Tristão Vaz Teixeira. Tristão Vaz was married to D. Branca Teixeira, who in some chronicles appears as a direct lineal descendant of D. Egas Fafes de Lanhoso, a dedicated crusader who, for his feats in battle, was awarded by King Balduino III of Jerusalem with a coat of arms that it was inherited by his direct descendant D. Hermigio Mendes de Teixeira, servant of D. Sancho I. The Teixeira descendants who arrived on Madeira Island would then be D.Hermigio's. In 1425, by order of D. Joao I, Tristão and Branca, together with the other discoverers of the island, were sent there to begin the settlement of the place. It is said that they lived there until the end of their lives, leaving many descendants. The region of origin of the maternal family, the Parish of Santana, is one of the strongholds of the Teixeira surname on the island. Paternal descent: up to 5 generations ago from armiger’s father, the family maintains the surname Silva, all in Bahia, where the first Silva arrived in Brazil in 1612. Antonio Cardoso da Silva in 1914, father; Elizeu de Madureira e Silva in 1893, grandfather; Manoel Cândido da Silva in 1872, great-grandfather; José Couto da Silva in the 1830s, great-great-grandfather; and Antonio José da Siva in the 1790s, great-great-grandfather.
