On the Recognition of Dethroned Sovereign Families, Titles of Nobility, and Honors

The Sovereign Imperial and Royal House of Ghassan, through its head HIRH Prince Gharios El Chemor of Ghassan Al-Nu’man VIII, solemny declares that it does not recognize any titles from deposed monarchies that are not officially and legally acknowledged by governments – preferably – of the territories previously ruled by those dethroned sovereigns and/or their dynastic lawful ascendants, and does not accept as “proof of legitimacy” any “technical report” by private commissions and/or publications like the Almanach De Gotha, since they are private enterprises focused mainly on European families and do not contain all the sovereign families recognized in the world.

The Prince of Ghassan concurs with the technical opinion of the late Archduke of Austria, HIRH Dr. Otto Von Habsburg (1910-2011): “… in my opinion, titles should only be confirmed by heads of states or reigning sovereigns…“ (Letter, 30 June 2010).

According to contemporary international law, so-called “recognition” is a matter of political interests, not necessarily legitimacy.

The Royal House of Ghassan and the El Chemor princely family have been recognized by ruling heads of state for the past eight centuries.

Also, any honors bestowed by the Royal House of Ghassan are given to the individual without recognizing any titles or honors that might be claimed by the individual honored unless expressed and explicitly mentioned in writing.
